Noberasco is a food company from Liguria, Italian leader in the dry and dried fruit industry. Since its foundation in 1908, Noberasco has come a long way thanks to innovation, commitment and tradition. A long entrepreneurial adventure is the result of the work of the Noberasco family, comprising four generations, who have cultivated a passion for high quality dried fruit for over a century.
The core business of Noberasco, founded in 1908 as the "Individual Benedetto Noberasco Firm" at the Savona Chamber of Commerce, has always been the picking and packaging of Italian fruits and vegetables. At the beginning of the 20th century, young Benedetto Noberasco had already foreseen great opportunities for this sector thanks to the access to international markets and the development of new modes of transportations.
With only a small capital, two thousand liras, he set up a business for picking, packaging and distributing the typical fruit and vegetable products of the Albenga Plain: peaches, apricots, asparagus, tomatoes and artichokes. But in a short time, contacts abroad started intensifying too, and this enabled the Company to import other kinds of dried fruits such as
Benedetto started importing dates from Marseilles, packaging and shipping them to Germany in the first “consumer pack“ of the sector. Thanks to the oval “Marseilles“ box (nowadays still a classic for dates packaging), Noberasco entered the world of dried fruits, the sector that was to become the core business of the company.
At the end of the First World war, a new talent entered the Noberasco Company: Pier Luigi, Benedetto’s son, who ran the company until the year 2000.
Noberasco was the first Italian company to import apricots from Spain.
Between 1950 and 1960, preference for dried fruit exceeded that for fresh fruit. Noberasco hit the top with 48 warehouses spread all over Italy.
At the end of the 60s, the new Noberasco factory was built on an area of 15,000 square metres in Albenga and became the company’s premises. The name of the company changed to Noberasco s.a.s. Gian Benedetto Noberasco and Brothers: the dynasty, in fact, had grown and Pier Luigi had gradually introduced his four sons into the business. Thanks to the consolidated experience in the dried fruit industry, Noberasco became the leading company in Italy and also started having a primary role in the markets of the rest of the World.
Pier Luigi Noberasco, already decorated with the title of “Order Merit for Labour”, was also awarded an honorary degree by the Faculty of Economics of the University of Genoa.
New products were created binding their success to the packaging, specially devised to satisfy the need for diversification. OraPuoi, a tasty dressing used mainly in cookery; Più Su, practical single-dose dried fruit packs, a snack idea created especially for sport lovers; Nuovo Millennio, ideal for longer preservation of soft and fragrant fruit. These three lines completed the range of Noberasco products, which by then counted up to150 varieties.
Pier Luigi decided to adopt a new system for processing prunes and other soft fruits: this way they could be preserved for a longer period of time, while their nutritional properties and taste remained unaltered.
The switch from the sale of loose products to packaged products helped the Company making a further leap forward: thanks to this new strategy, in the mid-80s, the company increased its size. Noberasco also expanded its business in Southern Italy, by opening a factory at Mongrassano Scalo, in the province of Cosenza, in association with businessmen from Calabria, specialized in the processing of local fruit and vegetable produce.
Noberasco’s offer continued to widen, thanks to the innovative SOLELUNA Organic line, a complete range of dried and soft fruits with 9 different references.
The quality of the raw materials and the advanced packaging, made more captivating thanks to modern graphics, immediately conquered the market and, in a short time, the SOLELUNA line became one of the most appreciated ones in the organic sector.
Agri Food srl, the production site at VadoLigure, started production. This enabled Noberasco to evolve technologically and increase its production lines.
Agri Food became the first and only factory in the world capable of producing and packaging soft dried fruit without using preservatives. The new plant developed over an area of 13,000 sq. m., of which 7,000 dedicated to production and refrigerated cells, the remaining 6,000 to logistics. This factory tripled the company's productive capacities and increased its flexibility in expanding, by quadrupling final product storage capacity, managing research and development in contact with production, and developing sales abroad.
Noberasco opened its first dried fruit shop in Italy: Noberasco in Via dei Mille, situated in an old Liberty style building in Albenga, right in the city centre. The dried fruit boutique, as it was nicknamed, soon became a point of reference - not only for the Liguria region.
Fruttime, a modern and original line of fruit in small, natural, gay and coloured cubes easy to carry around, was created. Ideal for mothers, children and sport lovers, Fruttime is a 100% true fruit snack and does not contain pectin or gelatines. The innovative and gay reclosable doypack, makes it possible to enjoy the four flavours of Fruttime - pears, red fruits, apricots and prunes - at any time of the day, for a healthy and tasty nutrition with the unique pleasure of fruit.
