In Europe and around the world, Rio Mare is a high quality Italian brand that combines taste and well-being with reliability, safety and innovation, ideal for those who watch what they eat.
Rio Mare’s mission has always been the pursuit of excellence at all levels: in the selection of raw ingredients, in the strict controls throughout the supply chain, in its ongoing communication with consumers offering clear, transparent and effective information, and in its continuous innovation to meet market demands with an ever-increasing range of tasty and easy-to-use-products.

Rio Mare and the ISSF.

Always attentive to sustainability issues, Rio Mare (a member of the Dolphin Safe programme since 1992) is one of the founders of

ISSF, the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation. ISSF is an unprecedented initiative, a global non-profit organization that brings together prominent members of the international scientific community, leading companies in the tuna industry and non-governmental environmental organizations such as the WWF. The mission of ISSF is to take actions based on scientific research to promote the conservation and long-term sustainability of tuna stocks, reducing bycatch (the accidental fishing of other marine species) and promoting a healthy ecosystem (http://www.iss-foundation.org).
Tuna is the raw material most commonly used by the world’s fish canning industry and, even though this resource is found in adequate levels today, the establishment of ISSF is a forward-looking initiative aimed at preserving long-term sustainability.

Responsible quality.

Well aware of its responsibility to people and the environment, Bolton Alimentari has become extremely sensitive towards sustainability issues. For this reason, in 2011 Rio Mare decided to launch its Corporate Social Responsibility 'Responsible Quality' project and published its first sustainability report. The aim of the project is to transfer the concept of all-round quality pursued responsibly throughout the entire production process to all the company’s stakeholders, focusing maximum attention on social and environmental issues, from sourcing of the raw material right up to the time that the product is served. A choice that has confirmed and strengthened the company’s commitment to social and environmental issues over the years and which indicates the path along which it will continue to develop. The 7 areas of "Responsible Quality" in which the company has focused its efforts are:

'In our role as market leader we are faced with the challenge and the duty to explore new ways of making our company more sustainable;- explains Ernesto Trovamala, CEO of Bolton Alimentari, Rio Mare -'We are proud of this first step, which rationalises the work we have done in recent years, but we understand that it is just the first step towards the construction of a business that is increasingly aligned with the values expressed by culture and social sensibilities'.
